History

The earliest record of Tanunda Pines Golf Course’s existence was in 1913. The club has evolved since then changing names, ownership, and locations numerous times to become the 18-hole championship course of today. The survival of the club and golf in the Barossa has been achieved through the efforts of many locals continuing the great sporting tradition of the area.

Tanunda Pines Golf Course takes great pride in being truly Barossa Grown. We are the home of golf in the Barossa and recognize the contribution made by our community to the continued success of the club. The current owner Balmoral Resort (Australia) Pty. Ltd. is embarking on a massive, long term capital works project to enhance and upgrade the entire facility to an elite standard, ensuring that TPGC is a must play 18-hole golf course in the heart of the Barossa Valley.

Since 1939, Tanunda Pines has been located on its current site at Pioneer Avenue, Rowland Flat. The current greenkeepers lunchroom, adjacent to the fifth tee block was the original clubhouse. This clubhouse witnessed the generous contribution and support of the members through difficult times. These members saw the club grow from a 9-hole course to the current 18-hole championship course.

In 1958, an extension of a 20 by 40-foot Cyclone brand prefabricated shed was added to the existing building. Over the years, a number of projects were carried out to upgrade the facilities where it is still standing firm today.

In 1979, the club hosted its first Pro-Am where Wayne Grady and Ian Baker-Finch played at the event and Wayne Grady gave his acceptance speech at the original Clubhouse when he won.

In the late 90’s, a contract was signed with the developer of the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort, which would see a new clubhouse constructed and a routing change to accommodate the relocation adjacent to the Novotel’s entrance road and facilities. This building is still in use today as the main clubhouse and proshop.

Due to financial difficulty, the original members owned Tanunda Golf Club was sold to Seven Under Pty Ltd in 2003, who changed the name to Tanunda Pines Golf Club and owned the course for 19 years. These seven families were instrumental in keeping the course at a high standard, while attempting to improve the overall impression to the wider golfing community.

In October 2022, Seven Under sold the course to Balmoral Resort (Australia) Pty Ltd. who have commenced a long overdue course enhancement plan with upgrades to the entire facility planned over the coming few years.

The future has never looked brighter at Tanunda Pines and we look forward to welcoming more visitors and new members as the course goes from strength to strength.
